Trim Corporation's Technology for Reusing Waste Glass Bottles - February 2003
Trim Corporation, an environmental venture company in Okinawa Prefecture, is developing a porous lightweight material made from waste glass bottles. While conventional recycling systems have been challenged by the transportation costs involved in reusing waste glass bottles, the company has created a regionally complete recycling system and is promoting its use within Okinawa Prefecture.
The porous lightweight materials produced by this technology can be used as construction materials and soil conditioners, and are particularly valued for their excellent water absorption and heat insulation properties. In addition, this material, obtained by crushing and firing waste glass bottles, is expected to contribute to the reduction of environmental impact and the formation of a recycling-oriented society in Okinawa Prefecture.
Furthermore, Trim Corporation has established a system to reduce the burden of waste disposal in cooperation with local governments. The company is introducing the system to local public facilities and companies, and is also strengthening cooperation with environment-related companies in and outside of the prefecture. In the future, the company plans to improve the technology and develop the business with a view to nationwide expansion.
