Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant Resumption Plan and Regional Issues - 2001 to 2023
The Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Plant, located in Kariwa Village and Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture, was discussed in 2001 with plans to expand the plant, but the earthquake risk and radioactive waste management issues were pointed out. However, local residents are concerned about evacuation plans and the reliability of TEPCO. On the other hand, the resumption of operations is expected to reduce fuel costs by more than 100 billion yen per year. The conflict between economic benefits and safety assurance continues.
