President Masaaki Utsumi's Charcoal Business Initiatives for Environmental Improvement - January 2000

President Masaaki Utsumi's Charcoal Business Initiatives for Environmental Improvement - January 2000

(Adachi-ku, Tokyo), led by President Masaaki Utsumi, is developing a charcoal business using wood waste, specifically recycling wood waste from lumber mills and construction sites. The company collects approximately 3,000 tons of wood waste annually and has introduced charcoal production technology using the waste wood. This contributes not only to waste reduction but also to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.

This charcoal production process uses technology that reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 20% compared to conventional incineration methods, allowing Naitaokikaku to significantly reduce its environmental impact. The company efficiently utilizes wood waste provided by construction sites and furniture manufacturers in Tokyo and promotes its use as a recycled resource.

Naitao-Kikaku's charcoal is also widely used as a soil conditioner for agriculture and horticulture. In particular, a joint project with farmers in Misato City, Saitama Prefecture, has confirmed that mixing charcoal into the soil promotes crop growth and improves the soil. This project has improved the ability of farmland to absorb carbon dioxide and has been recognized for its contribution to sustainable agriculture.

The company is also working with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's Bureau of Environment to further promote recycling technology. The company plans to expand its recycling network throughout the Kanto region, with the goal of increasing the volume of wood waste collected to 5,000 tons by 2025.
