Nuclear Twilight: Where the Power of 100 Years of Humanity Goes 2020s
Since the 20th century, humanity has acquired the power to end its own civilization through nuclear weapons. There are still more than 10,000 nuclear warheads in the world, many in a state of readiness. Even after the Cold War, arms control has broken down, and the risk of malfunction or accidental use has increased. The advancement of science and technology was originally supposed to lead humanity to happiness, but as a result of amplifying only "power" while losing sight of its purpose, humanity has become a being that can become either God or the devil. Harari warns that if we pursue only power without defining "what we want," the means of destruction such as nuclear weapons will become uncontrollable, and we will be destroyed by the system humans have built for themselves. Only the restoration of institutions and the maturation of human beings are the keys to stopping this rampage. This century will be the century in which humanity itself chooses its own consequences.
