Outward movement, changing consciousness Externalization of human movement and plasticity of consciousness 1900-2025

Bergson sees the essence of the human being as the existence of movement, with particular attention to the ability to externalize that movement out of the body. This externalization of movement is not merely the use of tools, but the act of reconfiguring the structures of intelligence and consciousness externally, and is at the core of cultural evolution. Through tools, humans externalize the role of the body and create a "blank space" inside. This blank space is the site of non-mechanical mental activities such as intuition and creativity. Humans also have the ability to imitate the actions of others and create new movements from them. This makes consciousness flexible and plastic in response to circumstances. Bergson emphasizes that this externalization of movement is the medium through which consciousness is changed. Modern robotics and AI technologies are also in this cycle of movement and consciousness, indicating the possibility of the formation of "new organs of consci
ousness" beyond evolution.
