In the Onada area of Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture, the extension of the use of the Ohata Center, a final disposal site, was approved in 2001, and the site is planned to operate for approximately 30 years until 2030. Environmental preservation was emphasized through such measures as strengthening control of dioxin, a hazardous substance, and installing sensors for groundwater monitoring. At the same time, Eco Recycle Gifu Co., Ltd. introduced technology to recycle incinerator ash and waste plastics, and 3,000 yen per ton of taxable income was used to help preserve the local environment.
In the 2010s, a direct-melt incinerator was introduced at the Sanokura Center, an incineration facility, and incinerator ash was reused as molten slag. While resource recycling was strengthened, the recycling rate declined from 26.1% in 2013 to 13.8% in 2020. 999 grams of waste per person per day was higher than the national average, and sorted collection of plastic containers and packaging became an issue.
In the 2020s, in light of the Ministry of the Environment's Law for Promotion of Plastic Resource Recycling, we are strengthening cooperation with local residents with the aim of shifting to a recycling-oriented policy when the incineration facility is rebuilt.
