Summary of Coastal Remediation with EM Bacteria - July 2003

Zushi City, Kanagawa Prefecture, had a problem with foul odors caused by rotting seaweed washed up on the beach. In response, a beach cleanup project was undertaken using EM bacteria (useful microorganisms), which slow decomposition and inhibit the production of noxious gases. As a result, the odor on the Zushi seashore was greatly reduced, and the project was well received by local residents and tourists alike. This technology is expected to be used even more widely in the future because of its effectiveness in reducing environmental impact and contributing to the regeneration of the natural environment.
