Progress in Water Purification Technology: Overview from 1997 to the 2020s
In 1997, a purification plant using membrane technology began operation in Kariya, Aichi Prefecture, treating 10,000 tons of wastewater per day, removing more than 90% of heavy metals and organic matter, and contributing to the improvement of the Yahagi River ecosystem. In the 2010s, the company expanded overseas, completing a 30,000-ton per day facility in Jakarta, Indonesia, and in the 2020s, a 30,000-ton per day seawater desalination facility went into operation in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, significantly reducing production costs. Membrane separation technology continues to evolve as a fundamental technology for reducing environmental impact and solving water resource problems.
