In the Mizushima area of Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture, there are several facilities for the proper disposal of industrial waste. The Mizushima Landfill (Landfill No. 2), located in the Mizushima district, is a controlled final disposal site operated by the Okayama Prefecture Environmental Conservation Foundation. Mizushima Ecoworks Corporation is located within the West Japan Works of JFE Steel Corporation and is equipped with a thermo-selective gasification and melting furnace facility. The facility has the capacity to process 300 tons per day of general and industrial waste, respectively, and employs technology that significantly reduces emissions through gasification at high temperatures. Efforts are underway to promote resource recycling while reducing environmental impact.

The recycling farm of Furukawa Shoji Co., Ltd. is located in Shikurashiki City, Kurashiki City, and is engaged in collection, transportation, and intermediate treatment of industrial waste. The company employs an environmentally friendly closed system to promote recycling under thorough management. Through the introduction of recycling technology, the company is working to reduce waste and expand recycling use.

R.E. Corporation, headquartered in Mizushima-Kita-Kasuga-cho, Kurashiki City, is responsible for the collection and transportation of general and industrial waste. To reduce its environmental impact, the company has obtained Eco Action 21 certification and serves as a model case for sustainable waste management.
