Development of hydrogen production technology by Teikoku Oil - October 2001

Teikoku Oil has developed a technology to produce hydrogen using byproduct gas generated from coke ovens, such as those used in steelmaking blast furnaces. This technology is intended to convert by-product gas into hydrogen efficiently and to make effective use of existing energy resources. The hydrogen produced is expected to be used as a clean energy source because of its high purity and reduced carbon dioxide emissions. By commercializing this technology, Teikoku Oil aims to take an important step toward the realization of a hydrogen society. The project, which is being carried out under the auspices of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, is expected to serve as the foundation for hydrogen supply both in Japan and abroad, and has the potential to make a significant contribution to building a sustainable energy society.
