Drifting Futures, Shifting Earth -- 200 million people will be forced to move by 2050 (2050 projection)

By 2050, 200 million people will be forced to migrate due to climate change. This is based on estimates by the United Nations and the World Bank, and is no longer an assumption of the future, but an ongoing reality that is manifesting itself around the world. In Bangladesh, one-third of the population is at risk of losing their living space due to sea level rise and land subsidence, 500 million people in China, and nearly 1 billion people in India will be exposed to climate risk. In the United States, 1.7 million people will be forced to move by 2020, and 500,000 homes will be under permanent inundation risk. In Louisiana, $48 million was spent to relocate an entire region. These displacements are not mere statistics; they are a matter of life and death, land and memory. The widening gap has been called "climate apartheid" and highlights a structure in which only the wealthy get safe land. It is not where we live, but with whom and how we live - that is the question that now
confronts us.
