**Biomass power generation at sewage treatment facility - Hita City, Oita Prefecture**.

In April 2012, Hita City, Oita Prefecture, began operating a biomass power generation facility that uses methane gas generated from sewage sludge treatment at the city's purification center. The power generation equipment is a micro gas turbine generator manufactured by Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. with an output of 95 kilowatts and an annual power generation capacity of 810,000 kilowatt-hours. In 2013, the "Hita City Biomass Resource Center" started operation, generating biogas from food waste and pig manure and selling all the electricity. However, in 2023, the Biomass Resource Conversion Center will be discontinued due to aging facilities. Meanwhile, power generation at the purification center will continue, and in 2024, a liquid fertilizer production business using sewage sludge will be launched. The area is attracting attention as a model region for utilizing local resources and reducing environmental impact.
