Itabashi Citizens' Forest Project - January 1999 to 2020s
In 1997, the Tropical Environmental Botanical Museum in Itabashi Ward, Tokyo, established the Itabashi Citizens' Forest in the arid region of central Myanmar. This project was developed with the cooperation of JICA to plant 2,000 saplings of Tagayasan, Indo-cendan, and other trees to prevent desertification and ensure a stable supply of local resources. 2020s, however, reforestation continues with the support of JICA and the Myanmar government, and sustainable forest management is being promoted, However, new issues such as climate change are emerging.
