Record-breaking heavy rain damage in Matsuyama and Imabari cities, Ehime Prefecture (November 2024)
On November 2, 2024, record-breaking heavy rainfall occurred in Matsuyama City and Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture, with more than 100 mm of precipitation observed in one hour. The Ishide and Shigenobu Rivers in Matsuyama City reached the dangerous flood level, and roads were flooded in the Ishide and Katsuyama districts. The underground parking lot of the Emiful MASAKI shopping mall in Matsuyama City was flooded, and Imabari Shipbuilding was partially submerged and had to suspend operations. Transportation and roads were also affected, forcing the evacuation of approximately 500 people, and the prefectural and municipal governments are working to restore operations and strengthen disaster prevention measures.
