Criminals Across the Sea of Darkness--The Cyber Storm Over Britain (2015)
In 2015, cybercrime accounted for about 53% of all crimes in the UK. This alarming percentage is a stark illustration of how online banking and online transactions have become routine and how society as a whole has become dependent on the digital space. In particular, cyber fraud and computer abuse have skyrocketed, with many citizens and businesses falling victim. The damage caused by the "DRIDEX" malware, controlled by Eastern European crime syndicates, was enormous, with losses of approximately £20 million recorded in the UK. Behind these international attacks are increasingly sophisticated methods and proliferating criminal tools. Despite this, the "silence" of companies and individuals who do not report the damage is attracting further attacks. The shadow of crime is hard to see, but it is certainly deep and undermining the roots of society. The only way to safely cross the waters of cyberspace is for nations, businesses, and citizens to raise the sails of vigilance tog
ether.
