Development of Mercury Recovery Technology and Phosphoric Acid Recovery Technology - January 2000
The mercury recovery technology underway in Kumamoto Prefecture vaporizes and separates approximately 50 kg of mercury per day from used fluorescent tubes and waste liquids at room temperature, improving energy efficiency by 30% and reducing costs by 20% compared to conventional high-temperature processing. This technology is aimed at efficient mercury recovery with minimal environmental impact. A project is also underway to recover phosphoric acid from electroless nickel plating wastewater and reuse approximately 500 tons per year as a raw material for fertilizer. These technologies will reduce industrial waste and make more effective use of agricultural resources, and a small recycling unit is scheduled for completion in FY2000.
