**Okayama Eco-town Plan** - April 2004
Okayama Prefecture's Eco-town Plan was formulated to promote the recycling of local resources and environmental businesses. Mini-eco-towns, which take advantage of the characteristics of each region, are being built throughout the prefecture to utilize renewable energy and recyclable resources. At the Mizushima Industrial Complex, the center of the project, research on industrial waste treatment and recycling technologies is being promoted, and specific initiatives such as carbonization of wood waste and recycling of waste spray cans are being undertaken. The plan aims to both revitalize the local economy and protect the environment, and is expected to have a ripple effect on other regions.
