Biomass Power Generation in Hita City, Oita Prefecture, Japan

Biomass Power Generation in Hita City, Oita Prefecture, Japan
Hita City, Oita Prefecture, started operation of the Biomass Recycling Center in 2006 and introduced a methane gas-based power generation facility. This facility has achieved an output of 340 kilowatts, generating approximately 1.76 million kilowatt-hours per year, and began selling all electricity in 2013. Furthermore, in 2013, Green Power Generation Oita Co., Ltd. installed a woody biomass power plant with an output of 5,700 kilowatts, supplying approximately 45 million kilowatt-hours per year. This promoted local energy supply, forestry promotion, and linkage with agriculture. On the other hand, aging facilities and increased operating costs will become an issue in the 2020s, and efficient operation and a stable supply of forest resources are required. Efforts are contributing to regional revitalization and global warming countermeasures.
