History of Port Improvements and Environmental Improvements at Shiogama Port, Miyagi Prefecture - April 2002 - November 2024

In 2002, a "purification type seawall" using microbial membranes was introduced at a port in the Mukoyo district of Shiogama, Miyagi Prefecture, to improve water quality through the decomposition of nitrogen compounds and phosphates. This technology has improved the environment for scallop and oyster growth and revitalized the fishing industry. Ltd. participated in the construction of the seawall, and gravels with a diameter of 5070 mm were used. In addition, monitoring was continued in consideration of the impact on Matsushima Bay.

In the 2020s, the Shiogama Port District will see the reorganization and reopening of aging facilities and the strengthening of logistics functions. Furthermore, based on the "Shiogama Port Port Renaissance 21 Plan," Marine Gate Shiogama was constructed to serve as a passenger terminal and tourist center. At the same time, redevelopment of the inner part of the port is underway, and the formation of a waterfront-type exchange center is underway in cooperation with the national government, Miyagi Prefecture, and Japan Water Industry. These efforts to harmonize the environment and the economy are contributing greatly to the development of the region.
