Problem of unauthorized disposal of ferrosilt in the Hata-naka area of Seto City - March 2007
The problem of Ishihara Sangyo's improper treatment and disposal of ferrosilt, a toxic substance, in the Hata-naka district of Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, has been discovered. Aichi Prefecture has issued a removal order, and the cost is expected to increase by several hundred million yen from the original plan. There are problems with the disposal of waste containing heavy metals in excess of the prescribed amount, and risks to the surrounding environment have been pointed out. In response, Aichi Prefecture and the Ministry of the Environment are considering reviewing the waste management system and strengthening penalties for companies, which are being addressed as environmental crimes.
