The Future Envisioned by Hydrogen" - Trajectory and Prospects of Fuel Cell Technology

In 1997, a fuel cell jointly developed by Osaka Gas and Tokyo Gas achieved a 10,000-hour continuous operation record; in the 2000s, Toyota introduced fuel cell vehicles on a trial basis, Osaka Gas launched EneFarm, and the commercialization of fuel cells progressed; in the 2010s, the MIRAI became widely used and a hydrogen production demonstration project in Tomakomai City, Hokkaido, began to take shape. In the 2020s, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will introduce hydrogen buses, and in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, hydrogen production using waste plastic is attracting attention.
