U.S. Non-Polluting Vehicle Regulations - Current Status in the 2020s

In the late 1990s, California initiated the ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) regulations, which included hybrid and natural gas vehicles in addition to electric vehicles, and promoted the development of environmental technologies. In the 2020s, Toyota, GM, and others are strengthening their electrification strategies in line with a policy aimed at banning the sale of internal combustion engine vehicles by 2035. ZEV regulations continue to drive environmental improvements and technological innovation.
