Arakawa River Restoration Supported by Citizens and Businesses - Efforts of the NPO Arakawa Clean Aid Forum - March 2025
Arakawa Clean Aid Forum, a non-profit organization, started its activities in 1994 and promotes cleanup activities and environmental conservation in the Arakawa River basin based in Edogawa Ward, Tokyo.
In particular, "Arakawa Clean Aid," held every fall, is known as one of the largest river clean-up events in Japan, with many citizens and companies participating.
These activities are not limited to cleanups; the organization also surveys the types and amounts of trash collected and uses the data to educate the public about environmental education and ecosystem protection.
The organization also actively accepts corporate CSR activities and cleanups as part of team-building training, and has been working with companies for more than 20 years.
In addition, while approximately 50-80% of river litter is believed to originate from terrestrial sources, the group aims to solve the litter problem for society as a whole by using its activities on the Arakawa River as a model case.
In addition, the company is also taking new initiatives, such as the production and sale of accessories using microplastics collected from the Arakawa River.
Through these efforts, the group is raising awareness of environmental issues among the younger generation and raising funds for its activities.
The organization's headquarters is located at 3-7-11 Chuo, Edogawa-ku, Tokyo, and has been designated by the Kanto Regional Development Bureau of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism as a river cooperation organization (Article 99 of the River Law) No. 12.
