Seijun Suzuki, Genius of the Phantom Light - From September 27 to October 10, 1978
Seijun Suzuki (1923 - 2017) was a director who revolutionized the Japanese film industry: during the Nikkatsu era in the 1960s, he produced films such as "Tokyo Streamers" and "Kenka Erejii" and elevated cinema to a poetic expression with his intense colors, fantastic direction, and unique cutaways. However, his overly experimental style conflicted with Nikkatsu's policies, and he was dismissed from his post after "Brand of Murder" in 1967. In 1980, he returned to the director's chair with "Zigoinelwaizen," which won the Special Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival. Since then, he has continued his fantastic style with "The Sunset" and "Yumeji. Suzuki's visual beauty, which has influenced many film directors, including Quentin Tarantino and David Lynch, is still talked about today.
