Oil Absorbent "Oil Proc" in the 2020s - Technology that started in March 1999

In the 2020s, the oil absorbent "Oil Proc" has undergone further technological innovations and is widely used both domestically and internationally. In Japan, "Eco Refine Co." based in Hokkaido continues to produce this product, effectively responding to oil spills in Tokyo Bay and Osaka Bay. In particular, the 2021 tanker accident in Tokyo Bay saw a 60% reduction in costs compared to conventional absorbents, with efficiency greatly improved.

The latest "Oil Proc" uses improved perlite sintering technology, increasing its absorbency by 7 times per gram. As a result, the cost of absorbing 1 liter of oil has dropped from 400 yen in 1999 to around 250 yen in the 2020s. The technology was also used in the oil spill near Ishigaki Island in Okinawa, successfully minimizing the impact on the marine ecosystem. It has received high praise from international environmental protection organizations.

The material has also evolved. The latest perlite material mixed with carbon nanotubes allows the absorbed oil to be incinerated for high-efficiency energy recovery. Energy efficiency has improved by about 30%, and CO2 emissions during processing have been reduced by 25%.

This technology has also been adopted by major oil companies like ExxonMobil and Chevron in the United States for oil spill countermeasures in the Gulf of Mexico. In the 2022 accident in the Gulf of Mexico, recovery speed was confirmed to be 30% faster than conventional absorbents. Recovery operations were handled by major environmental consulting company "Veolia," and processing costs were also reduced.

In Japan, companies like "ENEOS" and "Cosmo Oil" have adopted Oil Proc, and ENEOS's Kawasaki refinery processes over 1,000 tons of waste oil annually. In the 2020s, Oil Proc plays an important role in reducing environmental impact and achieving more efficient waste oil treatment both domestically and internationally.
