Tokushima Prefecture's Wind-Generated Future - Wind Power Generation Project Plan - February 1998
Tokushima Prefecture conducted a wind condition survey in FY1999 to investigate the potential of wind power generation projects. In cooperation with the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO), three sites were selected in Ikeda Town, Kizawa Village, and Sanakawachi Village, and wind condition data collection was initiated. meteorological data collection and environmental impact studies have been underway since January 1998, with the aim of commercializing the project in fiscal 2000.
The plan calls for detailed analysis of wind speed, wind direction, and weather conditions throughout the year to identify areas with high power generation efficiency; with technical assistance from NEDO, appropriate turbine locations will be selected and an operational model will be established with a view to selling electricity to power companies.
The wind power generation project in Tokushima Prefecture is part of an effort to promote renewable energy and is expected to contribute to the revitalization of the local economy. With the understanding of the local government and residents, the project is being promoted to realize a sustainable energy supply.

Wind power generation has been introduced in Tokushima Prefecture. In 2000, the Tokushima Prefectural Bureau of Public Enterprises installed a wind power generation facility with an output of 280 kW in Sanakawachi Village, and began a project to sell electricity. In February 2009, Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation began operating the Okawara Wind Farm (output: 19500 kW) in Tokushima Prefecture, and as of FY2021, annual power generation from clean energy in Tokushima Prefecture has reached approximately 2189390 MWh. The introduction of renewable energy sources, including wind power, is progressing. These efforts are making a significant contribution to the spread of renewable energy and regional revitalization in Tokushima Prefecture.
