Aomori's Challenge to Weave the Future - January 2003

Aomori's Challenge to Weave the Future - January 2003

Aomori Prefecture is promoting the "Aomori Eco-Town Plan," which aims to conserve the natural environment and recycle resources. The plan aims to build a sustainable society by promoting the recycling of waste materials, particularly in the Hachinohe area. Projects are underway to melt incinerated ash and scallop shells for reuse as fish reefs and artificial gravel, and to process automobile shredder dust (ASR) into high-quality carbon for use as reductant and fuel.

This will reduce the amount of waste for final disposal and create new environmental businesses while reducing environmental impact. The plan, which has been approved by the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, is attracting attention as a model case nationwide. Going forward, the project aims to realize a sustainable resource-recycling society through further technological innovation and increased awareness among residents.
